Christmas Wines

Neil O'Reilly

It’s not just an ordinary week as, for me, this is the start of Christmas.
From this week forward I will really begin looking at my Christmas heroes. If anyone asks my advice for Christmas day wines, the three below are sure to get a mention.

Château Saint Roch Cuvée Chimères has been awarded 95 points and a Gold Medal at the 2025 Decanter World Wine Awards. They may have liked it even more than we do;
“Intoxicating black olive and balsamic savoury notes fuse effortlessly with the shiny dark cherry fruit. All-encompassing and bold with sturdy tannins and a chalky texture.”
The perfect wine for pairing with Game Birds or a Rib of Beef this year!
We’ve taken our lead here from Mick O’Connell and the Business Post who have recommended our Paul Prieur et fils, Sancerre as one of their “Christmas Wine Picks to generate some festive cheer”.
“Eleven generations of know-how are involved here, and it really shines through. This is a stunning, layered sauvignon blanc with depth of texture and flavour. Elderflower and delicate top notes meet a dense mid-palate with citrus and stone fruit.”
A real go-to for my shellfish starters: open-face crab-meat sandwich on toasted sourdough — fantastic.

An old favourite that never ceases to raise the bar. Number 25 in Wine Spectators “Top 100 Wines of 2025” is no mean feat.

Carpineto was founded in 1967 by Giovanni Carlo Sacchet and Antonio Mario Zaccheo with the goal of transforming the potential of Tuscany into world-class wines. Sustainability is a core value here. In fact, the estate is carbon positive!

A true Christmas Classic in my house. If we’re having turkey, you can bet there will be an open bottle of Carpineto, Chianti Classico Riserva right beside it!

We’re just delighted to see such brilliant write-ups for a few of our Christmas favourites — and even happier to share them with you.
