Today I am excited and proud to share some great news from our partners in Rioja, El Coto de Rioja. We are happy to announce that the limited release IMAZ ICON Gran Reserva 2019 has been selected as the RIOJA 100 anniversary official wine
IMAZ ICON Gran Reserva 2019 comes from Finca El Villar, located in Elvillar de Álava.This exceptional vineyard is situated over 600 meters above sea level, providing ideal conditions for producing wines that age well.
The result is a red wine that boasts both strength and body while remaining silky on the palate. With its ageing potential, this wine is crafted to mature gracefully and become a collectable gem, perfectly aligned with its commemorative purpose. Made exclusively from Tempranillo, ICON features an intense ruby colour along with remarkable aromatic intensity. It is an elegant, delicate, and modern red wine that achieves a perfect balance between fruit and terroir through careful vinification. After being aged in the bottle for a minimum of 36 months, it develops the complexity, finesse, and elegance that makes it truly exceptional.
ABOUT THE SELECTION PROCESS
The Imaz ‘ICON’ Gran Reserva was selected through a competition organized by the Regulatory Council of the D.O.Ca Rioja to serve as a special wine to be gifted at some of the most significant events celebrating this symbolic year and the 100th anniversary of the Denomination. The selection process involved a blind tasting conducted at the Rioja Council, where a panel of experts evaluated over 101 wines. The reason for the choice? ICON accomplished something remarkable, a perfect score! it perfectly blends the traditional essence of Rioja with a fresh, modern approach—representing the balance that defines the Denomination at this historic moment.
