Wines to try in 2026

Neil O'Reilly

Happy New Year to you! Following our Mackenway Wine awards, I’ve had quite a few people reach out to ask what are my wines to look out for in 2026.

So, I’ve put together a list of wines that I think are going to go gangbusters in this coming year..

For consistency and quality, Carpineto really stand above the rest. Their Rosso

di Montalcino is a favourite of mine and I’m hoping yours in 2026.

Immaculate Sangiovese: plum, black cherry and fragrant herbs wrapped in a fine oak frame with solid, smoky tannins, minty acidity and a lingering chocolate finish. 95 Points – Decanter

An absolute crowd favourite with our customers, the Guedes family have been the winemakers in Aveleda since 1870. Their dedication to the land, fruit and people of the area stands out in all of their wines.

It’s in the Solas de Xisto where we see a true expression on a single terroir and how complex Vinho Verde wines can be.

The goal in Pyros is simple – make the best wines in the Padernal Valley. The high altitude valley is isolated and self-contained giving Paula Gonzalez, Paul Hobbs, and the rest of the winemaking team the best chance at achieving their goal.

I think I say it every year, but Bodega Garzon single vineyard Albarino is surely a “Wine to watch” in 2026. Those who have tried their Reserva collection, know the quality.

Their Single Vineyard Albarino is limited production and expresses the terroir of plots on the estate in Maldonado.
