World Malbec Day

Neil O'Reilly

We all know that the consumer has favourites when it comes to wine, and very few wines can match the demand of Argentinian Malbec.
So, as we’re still looking out at Winter weather, I’ve decided that Friday is not World Malbec day. April is Mackenway’s Malbec Month!

In honour of that, I’ve decided to shout out some of my favourites from our fantastic partners in Argentina.

Callia Malbec

“Brilliant, juicy, and medium-bodied. Loaded with delicious plum and cherry flavours” Gold Star – Irish Wine Show Awards.

Portillo Malbec

” Lovely blackcurrant and plum notes. On the palate, darker bramble fruits emerge alongside raspberry, blueberry, and redcurrant with a touch of mint and a wonderful tannin structure and elevated acidity.” IWSC 93 Points

Ben Marco ‘Plata’ Malbec

Ben Marco Plata Malbec
“A great-value introduction to the wines of influential winemaker Susana Balbo, this high-altitude limited-edition Malbec blended with a little Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc is rich and punchy with black cherry and toasted spice, good acidity and ripe tannins.” Irish Independant.

Osado Malbec ‘Uco Valley’

“Blueberry and black plum-driven, minty and herbal. Strong fruity character, outstanding level of quality, touch of complexity, elevated by acidity.”
“Great value – I would drink it with duck breast marinated with plum sauce.” Sommelier Wine Awards- Silver Medal

Salentein ‘Barrel Selection’ Malbec

Salentein 'Barrel Selection' Malbec
“This is an exquisite and aromatic barrel-fermented Malbec, offering rich notes of redcurrant and blueberry complimented by delicate hints of rose petal and violets. It is fresh and vibrant with a lingering and spicy finish. 93 Points- Tim Atkin MW

Pyros ‘Appellation’ Malbec

“A fresh, juicy malbec full of dark cherries, peppercorns, minerals and spices. Lovely fruit with medium body and lots of acidity ripping through the palate. Succulent and nervy in the finish, showing fine-grained tannins. Long and linear. Excellent quality from this vintage.” 92 Points – James Suckling
