Adegas Valminor

Neil O'Reilly

I had the absolute pleasure of showing Yago from Adegas Valminor around Dublin yesterday.

As he walked some of our customers through his wines and wineries, I thought to myself “why not spread the joy”.

Over two decades ago, Carlos Gómez Davila, Yago’s father and a trained executive with extensive experience in the wine business, embarked on an unprecedented project in the heart of O Rosal Valley.

Today, they stand as a leading winery capable of producing more than 1,000,000 litres of wine across three wineries, driven by sustainability through solar panels, cutting edge technology, and certifications like the coveted BRC certification.

Adegas Valminor is located in one of the most unique sub-zones of the Rías Baixas. Surrounded by Celtic culture is the place where the Miño River embraces the Atlantic Ocean

Malas Companas has good intensity on nose with notes of white fruit, apple, fuzzy-skinned fruit such as peach and other tropical fruits. The entrance on the mouth is soft, unctuous, at the same time fresh and cheerful with a well-balanced acidity that gives it an Atlantic point from the Albariño; the retronasal is fruity with a hint of licorice, the end of the mouth harmonious and sweet.

Elaborate swirls of lime, lemon, passionfruit and white peach entice the nose whilst the pristine purity of acidity and mineral freshness disarms the terroir-driven palate. Salty, linear and tangy, demonstrating Atlantic style at its best.

Ébano, it is located in Castrillo del Duero – at a privileged spot by the Duero River basin –, works in the careful selection of parcels and grapes, which ends up in an excellent hand-made harvest.
The name of the winery, stands for Ebony, the noble black wood used to make high-end musical instruments such as clarinets or pianos. The colour notes of the wines, despite its aging, evokes the dark colour of this unique wood.

Deep colour with purple rim. Aromas of strawberry jam, blackberry, redcurrant, blueberry, and liquorice. Spiced notes of dill, black pepper, cinnamon, balsamic, vanilla, cacao, and toffee. Mouthfeel is warm, powerful ,with ripe tannins and good balance. Persistent finish.

Garnet-coloured wine with medium-high intensity. Aromas of red and black fruits, balsamic, vanilla, menthol, tobacco, and spices from French oak. Smooth, dense palate with chocolate, toffee, and figs. Balanced acidity, round structure, and a long, elegant finish.

The Minius project began in the 2014 with the rental of a small winery, where the first wines under the Minius Godello and Minius Mencía labels were crafted.
In 2025, the winery is taking a major step forward with the renovation of a historic rectoral -the former priest’s house – transforming it into its own production facility. This unique and unprecedented project will blend viticultural heritage with modern winemaking techniques, where tradition meets innovation.

Deep maroon colour with violet rim. Intense red fruit aromas like blackberry, cassis, and cocoa, with mineral notes. Balanced palate with medium structure, creamy texture, sweet polished tannins, and a smooth, fruity finish with sweetness and great persistence.
